Vera Rubin Observatory takes its first light

Author: Sarthak Arora

The Vera Rubin Observatory, Chile, is capturing the skies! The observatory houses the Simonyi Survey Telescope with a 8.4 meter mirror. This allows it to capture a circular patch of the sky 3.5 degrees across with an impressive resolution. The camera used is a 3.2gigapixel camera, the largest camera built for astronomy. Although the observatory is still not fully functional, a few images were taken, including the Virgo Cluster and, my gosh, they are gorgeous.

Here is the link to the website and I encourage everyone to check it out atleast once. https://rubinobservatory.org/ (I would again emphasize on the fact that the observatory hasn’t reached its full potential)
